Wolves Sweep Doubles and Take Down Patriots 5-2 at Home

NEWBERRY, SC - The Newberry Wolves earned a 5-2 victory over the Francis Marion Patriots on Sunday afternoon in nonconference action at home.

Newberry set the tone early by sweeping all three doubles matches to secure the doubles point and take a 1-0 lead into singles play.

At No. 1 doubles, Renee Dorval and Yui Suzuki delivered a 6-3 win. Dorval and Suzuki set the standard for the afternoon with aggressive net play and consistent serving. The Wolves continued their momentum at No. 2 doubles, where Hazel Vernon and Lina Sarhan controlled play in a 6-2 victory. Margarita Roshka and Aina Miralles capped the sweep at No. 3 doubles with a decisive 6-3 win to complete the early 1-0 advantage.

In singles competition, Newberry claimed four of the six matches to seal the team victory.

Yui Suzuki battled in a tightly contested match at No. 2 singles, earning a four-set victory, 7-6, 4-6, 7-4, 6-1. Suzuki's resilience in the tiebreak and closing set helped swing momentum back to the Wolves. Lina Sarhan was dominant at No. 3 singles, cruising to a 6-1, 6-1 win. Sarhan controlled the baseline throughout the match.

Aina Miralles followed with a commanding 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 4 singles, while Renee Dorval rolled to a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles. Miralles and Dorval each secured straight-set performances to push Newberry comfortably ahead.

With the doubles sweep and balanced singles performances from Suzuki, Sarhan, Miralles, and Dorval, the Wolves secured the 5-2 home victory. The Wolves will return to the courts again on February 19th to face off against Lander University at the Oakland Tennis Center.
