ANDERSON, SC - After surrendering five runs in the bottom of the first, Newberry responded with a steady, gritty comeback to knock off previously unbeaten Anderson 7–6 Friday (Feb. 13) in the opener of the three-game SAC series. The Wolves erased the early deficit with a run in the third and a four-run fourth to grab a 5–5 tie, then got even again in the sixth before Logan Busenlehner's go-ahead RBI single in the ninth proved to be the difference.
Newberry's offense piled up 11 hits, led by Nick Foster's 4-for-5 day and an early spark from Jomar Lugo, who scored three runs and doubled to set up the Wolves' first tally. Bryson Nuckols delivered two hits, including an RBI single in the third, and Newberry capitalized on Anderson miscues in the fourth to plate four runs and climb all the way back into the game.
On the mound, Keillor Osbon earned the win with four scoreless innings of relief, allowing just three hits while helping the Wolves keep Anderson off the board from the fifth through the ninth. Newberry's bullpen work set the stage for the late push, and Busenlehner's ninth-inning knock plated the deciding run as the Wolves held on to take Game 1.
