NEWBERRY, SC — The Newberry College women's basketball team (12-11, 6-11 SAC) fell to nationally ranked No.25 Lenoir-Rhyne University, 72-57, on Wednesday evening inside Eleazer Arena. The Bears used a strong first-half performance to build separation early, taking a 38-21 lead into halftime after opening the game with a 22-point first quarter.
Rickell Brown led Newberry offensively with 16 points and four rebounds, pacing the Wolves on the scoring end. Marykate Kent added 14 points, knocking down key shots from beyond the arc to spark runs throughout the game, while Reghan Williams contributed 10 points to round out the Wolves' double-figure scorers.
Newberry showed resilience after the break, scoring 36 second-half points and competing more evenly down the stretch. The Wolves finished the contest shooting 61.9 percent from the free-throw line while adding 20 points in the paint and converting defensive pressure into 17 points off turnovers. The Wolves will hit the road to take on Tusculum on February 14th at 2 PM.
