NEWBERRY, SC - The Newberry College women's wrestling team competed in a tri-meet on February 10, opening the day against Emory & Henry before closing the night versus Mount Olive. The Wolves battled throughout both duals but ultimately fell 23-21 to Emory & Henry and 39-10 to Mount Olive.
Newberry vs. Emory & Henry
Newberry opened the tri-meet with a closely contested dual against Emory & Henry, coming up just short in a 23–21 decision.
The Wolves picked up key points early with forfeits at 103 and 117, as Celeste Welch and Lainey Hooper secured wins to give Newberry an early advantage. Brittany Gordon added a pivotal victory at 131 pounds, earning a fall over Makenzie Robinson to keep the Wolves in control midway through the match.
Newberry also saw a strong performance from Irie Edwards at 180 pounds, who earned a forfeit win to keep the dual within reach heading into the final bouts. Despite those efforts, Emory & Henry was able to secure multiple falls across the middle and upper weights, narrowly edging the Wolves in the final team score.
Newberry vs. Mount Olive
In the second dual of the day, Newberry faced a tough Mount Olive squad and fell 39–10.
The Wolves' points came from Lainey Hooper, who earned a forfeit win at 117 pounds for her second victory of the day, and Mia Proctor, who delivered a highlight performance at 145 pounds with a fall over Savannah Chesney.
Mount Olive controlled the remainder of the dual with a series of falls and a technical fall, pulling away on the scoreboard despite Newberry's continued effort across the lineup.
