Wolves Fall to Belmont Abbey in Home Dual

NEWBERRY, SC - The Newberry College men's wrestling team battled throughout the night but ultimately fell to Belmont Abbey, 37-8, in a home dual on Thursday evening inside Eleazer Arena.

Newberry picked up two official victories on the night, highlighted by a dominant performance at 125 pounds from Ricky Springs. Springs controlled the action from the opening whistle, earning an 8-1 decision over Kyle Simpson to give the Wolves an early spark.

At 165 pounds, Bo Perkins delivered one of the most impressive wins of the night for Newberry. Perkins scored a decisive 19-4 technical fall over Austin Marry, showcasing relentless offense and pace to secure all five team points for the Wolves.

Despite the Wolves efforts, Belmont Abbey responded with a strong run through the middle and upper weights, recording multiple falls and technical falls to build separation on the scoreboard.

An exhibition bout was held following the conclusion of the dual, where Newberry's Ben Guilliams earned a 12-5 decision over Finn Buchanan of Belmont Abbey. The match did not count toward the team score.

The Wolves will hit the mats next on February 4th against Mount Olive University in Eleazer Arena.
