NEWBERRY, SC- The Newberry College men's basketball team secured an 84–75 victory over Coker University on Wednesday night at Eleazer Arena. Drake Downs was honored for reaching 1,000 career points, a milestone that energized the Wolves. With the win, Newberry improves to
12–7 overall and
5–3 in South Atlantic Conference play, while Coker falls to 6–12 overall and 2–6 in conference action.
Makhi Rivers led Newberry with 21 points, while Malakhi Stremlow recorded a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Downs added 14 points and seven rebounds, and Kayzzin McDowell contributed 16 points off the bench. The Wolves shot an impressive 52.6% from the field and went 65.5% from the free-throw line, scoring 12 points off turnovers.
The Wolves will be on the road Saturday, January 31st, at 2PM to face UvA Wise.
