SWANNANOA, NC - In a landmark moment for Newberry College men's volleyball, the Wolves captured the first victory in program history with a dominant 3–0 (25–16, 25–23, 25–19) win over Averett University on Friday afternoon in Swannanoa, N.C. Newberry's balanced attack and solid defense set the tone throughout all three sets, ending up in a sweep that marked a major milestone in the young program's inaugural season.
Offensively, Newberry was led by junior Preston Anderson, who paced the Wolves with a match-high 13 kills, followed by Alex Arbez with eight and Lucas Nieves with six. Setter Greyson Crumpton directed the offense expertly, posting 27 assists while keeping the Wolves in system all afternoon.
The Wolves' serving proved strong as well, with Nieves recording four service aces and Ignacio Rodriguez and Crumpton each adding an ace to keep pressure on Averett's serve-receive. At the net, Newberry finished with four total blocks, including two by Anderson. Overall, Newberry outpaced Averett in multiple categories, finishing with 33 kills to Averett's 29 and earning six team aces to Averett's two.
