SALISBURY, NC- The Newberry College women's basketball team earned a pivotal South Atlantic Conference road victory on Wednesday night, defeating Catawba College 68–59 at Goodman Arena in Salisbury, N.C. The win snapped a losing streak in the series, as the Wolves had not defeated the Indians since the 2022 season. With the victory, Newberry improved to 10–8 overall and 4–7 in SAC play, while Catawba moved to 7–9 overall and 5–6 in conference action.
Jada Brown led Newberry with 14 points and eight rebounds, providing a steady presence in the paint. Leigha Harris added 12 points and seven assists, guiding the offense and creating opportunities for teammates, while Hannah Nimmo also finished with 12 points and five rebounds. Marykate Kent contributed eight points off the bench, rounding out a balanced team effort that fueled the Wolves' important SAC road victory.
Newberry set the tone early in the contest, playing with poise and intensity on both ends of the floor. The Wolves controlled the pace in the opening half, limiting Catawba's offensive rhythm while executing efficiently in the half court. Behind balanced scoring and strong defensive pressure, Newberry built a 30–20 halftime advantage, putting themselves in position to control the game on the road. The Wolves continued their strong play coming out of the locker room, opening the second half with energy and confidence. Newberry scored 20 points in the third quarter, extending the lead and answering every Catawba push. Despite a late rally by Catawba in the fourth quarter, the Wolves remained composed, making key plays down the stretch and securing the 68–59 win.
The Wolves will return home on Friday, January 23, with a 2:00 PM tip-off against the Lions of Mars Hill.
