Wolves Roll Past Shorter for First Win of the Season

ROME, GA – The Newberry College men's soccer team picked up its first victory of the season on Saturday evening, defeating Shorter University 4-1 on the road.

The Wolves struck twice in quick succession midway through the first half. Giuseppe Gereau opened the scoring in the 29th minute off an assist from Benji Martinez, before Tomas Queiros doubled the advantage less than two minutes later on a feed from Ben Curtis. Shorter pulled one back in the 36th minute, but Newberry carried a 2-1 lead into halftime.

In the second half, Gereau tallied his second goal of the night in the 71st minute to restore a two-goal cushion. Defender Josh Momodu then capped the scoring just four minutes later, scoring off an assist from Bjarki Mar Agustsson for his first career goal

Goalkeeper Charlie Clark anchored the defense with four saves, including three in the first half, to secure the win. The Wolves dominated, outshooting Shorter 23-6 with 14 shots on goal.

With the result, Newberry moves to 1-0 on the young season after Thursday's scheduled opener was postponed. The Wolves return to action in their first SAC event next week vs. Mars Hill.
