GREENVILLE, SC - In an evening under the lights at Bob Jones University's Bruins Night Classic, the Newberry College Men's and Women's cross country teams launched their season with solid performances. Tyler Shumate took first place in the men's 6k with a time of 19:31.78. The men's team claimed a third place finishes and the women claimed eighth, both signaling a competitive start with plenty to build upon
Newberry's women opened the season at the Bruins Night Classic with an 8th-place team finish in the 4,000-meter race. The Wolves were led by Olivia Hare, who turned in the team's top result with a 16th-place finish in 16:19.29.
Women's Individual Results:
Newberry's top five scorers (Hare, Bouchard, Calidonio, Johnson, Howle) combined for 197 team points, giving the Wolves an 8th-place showing.
Men's Individual Results:
Newberry's scoring five (Shumate, Benson, Kent, Longdon, Scott) combined for a competitive team total of 99, landing them in 3rd, propelled by Shumate's individual win and Benson's top-10 showing. With three runners inside the top 15, the Wolves demonstrated strong front-running presence and will look to tighten their pack as the season continues. The Wolves will compete next on September 20th at the Bulldogs Stampede.
