WILSON, NC – Newberry College volleyball kicked off its 2025 season on a strong note Friday afternoon, earning a 3-1 victory over Davis & Elkins at the Barton College Tournament. The Wolves took the match by scores of 25-20, 21-25, 25-16, and 25-17.

Carole Ann Hussey led the attack with 13 kills and three blocks, while Anna Schneider added 12 kills, 13 digs, and three service aces for a well-rounded performance. Samantha Shaffer chipped in 10 kills, and setter Annie Dill directed the offense with 22 assists.

Defensively, the Wolves were anchored by Hailey Clayworth, who posted a team-high 18 digs, and Evie Paalman, who added 10 digs of her own. As a team, Newberry finished with 61 digs and 11 service aces on the night.

With the win, the Wolves move to 1-0 on the season and will continue tournament play on Saturday with two more matches vs. Frostburg and Barton at 2pm and 6pm.
