Keeler’s Clutch Goal Seals Overtime Road Victory

GREENWOOD, S.C. – Newberry field hockey stayed unbeaten with a thrilling 2-1 overtime victory over Lander on Saturday afternoon at Frank Hill Stadium.

After a scoreless first half, the Wolves struck first in the third quarter when Wibien Dahmen converted off an assist from Parker Keeler at the 36:28 mark. Lander responded quickly, with Nienke Meima finding the equalizer just three minutes later to tie the match 1-1 heading into the final frame.

Both sides battled through a physical fourth quarter, with neither team able to break the deadlock and forcing overtime. In the extra period, Newberry applied heavy pressure, earning multiple penalty corners. With just seconds remaining, Parker Keeler delivered the game-winning goal at 69:20 to seal the Wolves' sixth straight victory. Keeler also added an assist on Dahmen's earlier goal, finishing with a two-point performance.

Newberry outshot Lander 13-10, placing nine on target compared to the Bearcats' four. Goalkeeper Ayanda Manegnah anchored the Wolves defensively, collecting three saves across nearly 70 minutes of action.

The win pushes Newberry to 6-0 overall and 2-0 in conference play, while Lander falls to 5-1 (2-1 SAC). The Wolves will continue their road trip with a matchup at Wingate on September 30 at 6 p.m.
