Wolves Honor Fallen Teammate With Helmet Sticker

The Newberry College football team is wearing a commemorative sticker on the back of their helmet to honor the legacy of fallen teammate Mycheal TyRay Edwards-Wallace.

Mycheal lost his life this summer in a shooting in his hometown of Silverstreet.

"We just want to honor the memory of Big Mike," said Wolves head coach Todd Knight.  "It is just a heartbreaking situation for a young talented man to lose his life and be struck down at such an early age when he had such a bright future ahead."

"We were really excited to have him as part of our team. He will always be part of our Newberry family."

Edwards-Wallace, who graduated from Silverstreet High School this spring, played offensive and defensive line for the Blazers and earned several football honors.

He was named a South Carolina Football Coaches Association Class AA All-State selection and an All-Area and All-Region pick during his senior year in high school.

Edwards-Wallace also took part in the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas, the oldest high school all-star football game in the nation that showcases top players from North Carolina and South Carolina.

His number 75 was retired by Silverstreet High School.
