MARS HILL, N.C. – Newberry women's lacrosse put on a masterclass performance Wednesday afternoon, steamrolling Mars Hill 18-1 at Meares Stadium in a South Atlantic Conference clash that featured not only a dominant team showing, but also major career milestones.
Senior attackers Serena Elias and Emma Jobs both recorded their 100th career points/goals in the win, adding a historic touch to the Wolves' lopsided victory. Elias was everywhere on the offensive end, tallying three goals and two assists to push her past the century mark. Jobs reached the milestone with a four-point outing of her own — three goals and one assist — as the dynamic duo led a balanced and relentless Newberry attack.
The Wolves (10-4, 7-2 SAC) wasted no time asserting themselves, erupting for six first-quarter goals and building an 11-0 lead at halftime. Newberry's offense was crisp and unselfish, producing 18 goals on 34 shots while putting 28 of them on target.
Dakota Beasley paced all scorers with four goals, showing off her finishing ability with a variety of strikes. In total, 10 different Wolves tallied at least one point, underscoring the depth and fluidity of Newberry's attack.
Defensively, the Wolves were just as impressive. Newberry allowed just one goal on 16 shots, with goalies Mackenzie Dorr and Presley Green splitting the game and combining for 11 saves. The defense kept Mars Hill scoreless for over 56 minutes and smothered any momentum with aggressive riding and tight on-ball pressure.
In the draw circle, Newberry dominated 17-5, led by Scythe Shephard and Emma Jobs, who consistently gave the Wolves early possession and control of the pace. The Wolves forced 16 turnovers and converted 21-of-24 clear attempts.
Mars Hill (2-11, 1-8 SAC) managed its only goal with just over three minutes remaining in regulation. The Wolves will now turn their focus to Saturday, when they return home to Setzler Field for a 2 p.m. matchup against the University of Mount Olive.
