Wolves Falls In SAC Semifinals to Limestone

GAFFNEY, S.C. – The Newberry women's lacrosse team closed out a strong 2025 campaign on Wednesday afternoon, falling 17-6 to Limestone (13-5 overall & 10-2 SAC) in the semifinals of the South Atlantic Conference Tournament.

After Limestone opened the game with four straight goals, Trysten Burns put Newberry on the board with 5:03 left in the first quarter, scoring on a free-position shot to cut the deficit to 4-1. Saints responded with another goal before the end of the quarter, and Newberry entered the second trailing 5-1.

Serena Elias scored early in the second, converting a free-position opportunity with 11:05 remaining in the half to make it 7-2. Burns followed less than four minutes later with an unassisted goal at the 7:16 mark. Just before halftime, Lana Howell found the net with 38 seconds left to pull the Wolves within 9-4, but Limestone answered 27 seconds later to take a 10-4 lead into the break.

Burns completed her hat trick midway through the third quarter, scoring an unassisted goal at 7:07 to bring Newberry's total to five. Limestone was able to score 15 points across the first three periods. The Wolves held Limestone to just two goals in the fourth quarter. Newberry's final goal came with 3:08 remaining in the game, when freshman Emma Jobs scored off an assist from Dakota Beasley.

Goalkeeper Mackenzie Dorr made 10 saves in the game, facing 40 total shots. The Wolves successfully cleared 11 of 15 attempts and collected six draw controls. Burns led all Newberry players with three goals on six shots, while Elias, Howell, and Jobs each added one.

The Wolves closed the year with a 13-6 overall record (9-3 SAC), with three players named to the 1st Team All-Conference, one player earning 2nd Team All-Conference, and one player making the 3rd Team All-Conference.
