HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Newberry Wolves delivered a dominant performance, cruising to a 15-4 win over Coker with an explosive offensive display and stifling defense. From the opening whistle, Newberry controlled the tempo, capitalizing on scoring opportunities while limiting the Cobras' offensive chances.
The Wolves quickly set the tone, moving the ball efficiently and converting early chances. They held Coker to just two goals in the first half while piling up 12 of their own.
Ayden Snow opened the scoring at 14:18 in the first quarter, assisted by
Scott Williams. Newberry kept the pressure on, adding four more goals in the opening period before erupting for seven in the second.
Liam Vollans struck twice in the second quarter, with both goals set up by
Shane Halliwell. Vollans added two more later in the game, assisted by
Derek Caiazzo and
William Fitzsimmons.
Jonny MacLean capped off the first-half scoring with a goal off a pass from
Gage Vigar.
Aydric Burleigh helped the Wolves maintain possession, winning six of his 10 faceoffs.
Newberry saw contributions from eight different goal scorers, with Vollans leading the way with four goals. In net, Ben McMullen made nine saves on 12 shots, while
Nolan Downey stopped three of four in relief. The Wolves were nearly perfect on clears, completing 25 of 26 attempts, and dominated the ground ball battle with 28 recoveries.
The Wolves now sit at 8-4 overall and 5-1 in the SAC. They will be back home this Saturday for a 4:00 p.m. matchup against Lenoir-Rhyne.
