Box Score NEWBERRY, SC - The Newberry College women's tennis team battled hard but came up short against Catawba, falling 4-2 in a closely contested match on Tuesday afternoon.
The Wolves started strong in doubles play, securing the doubles point with wins on courts two and three. Margarita Roshka and Alexa Gamborino-Suarez delivered a 6-3 victory, while Hazel Vernon and Lina Sarhan followed up with a dominant 6-2 performance claiming the doubles point.
In singles action, Newberry fought hard but was unable to maintain momentum. Gamborino-Suarez was a bright spot for the Wolves, securing a decisive 6-2, 6-3 win. Despite a strong effort, Emma Arnal fell in straight sets, 7-6 (2), 6-0, while Sarhan pushed her match to three sets before ultimately falling, 6-0, 4-6, 6-1. Roshka also went the distance in a competitive match but fell short, 6-4, 1-6, 6-4.
Aina Miralles' match against Drukerova remained unfinished at 5-7, 6-4 when the overall contest was decided. Meanwhile, Renee Dorval fell to Igarashi 6-1, 6-2, sealing the match for Catawba.
The Wolves will compete next on the road on March 29th against Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, TN.
