SALISBURY, NC – The Newberry Wolves fell to No. 14 Catawba, 13-2, on Friday night at Newman Park. Despite a brief offensive spark in the fifth inning, the Wolves were unable to keep up with the Indians' early offensive surge.
Catawba jumped ahead quickly, scoring seven runs in the first two innings. Newberry responded in the fifth inning when Campbell McCurry delivered a two-run single, bringing in Wilson Wages and Cooper Gentry.
Wages had a solid day at the plate, going 1-for-2 with a stolen base and a run scored. Kade Faircloth also collected a hit, but Newberry was limited to just four total hits.
On the mound, Ethan Lebron took the loss, allowing nine earned runs on nine hits in 3.1 innings. The Wolves' bullpen, consisting of Thomas Wayne and Blake Morrison, provided some relief, but Catawba continued to tack on runs throughout the game?.
The Wolves will regroup for tomorrow's doubleheader match against Catawba at 1pm and 4pm.
