MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The Newberry women's wrestling team put up a strong fight on Tuesday night but came up short against a tough Mount Olive squad, falling 39-10. Despite the final score, the Wolves showcased resilience and determination.
Newberry put forth a strong effort throughout the night, highlighted by
Dara Lin's victory at 145 lbs., where she secured a fall at the 1:10 mark. At 207 lbs.,
Avianna Velarde battled with determination before Mount Olive's Cynthia Smithclaimed a fall at 2:05.
The Wolves also saw determined efforts from Amanda Moore (138 lbs.) and
Summer McKeen (124 lbs.), who battled through tough matchups.
Emely Mejia-Martinez (131 lbs.) stepped onto the mat ready to compete, but her match was unfortunately cut short due to injury.
Newberry will compete in their next matchup at home on February 11th against the Tornadoes of King University 7PM.
