Box Score WINGATE, N.C. – Newberry secured a hard-fought road victory, defeating their opponent 75-72 in a South Atlantic Conference matchup on Wednesday night at Cuddy Arena. The Wolves improved to 10-12 overall and 7-9 in SAC play with the win. After a back-and-forth first half, the teams entered the break tied at 27-27. Newberry came out strong in the second half, scoring 48 points to secure the narrow victory.
Devario Sheppard led the Wolves with a game-high 24 points on 10-of-15 shooting, adding seven rebounds and a block. Drew Robinson contributed 15 points, five rebounds, and three steals while shooting 6-of-13 from the field. Malakhi Stremlow posted nine points, eight rebounds, and three assists. Drake Downs was strong on the boards, collecting seven rebounds. Newberry dominated in the paint, scoring 38 points inside while adding 18 fast-break points.
As a team, the Wolves shot 45% from the field (27-60), while converting 15 of 25 free throws. They controlled the boards with 40 rebounds, including 10 on the offensive end, and recorded 10 assists, eight steals, and two blocks.
The Wolves return to action on the road February 8th as they face the Eagles of Carson-Newman at 4 PM.
