Newberry Splits Doubleheader with Lander Behind Offensive Outburst in Game Two

NEWBERRY, SC – After a tough opening loss, the Newberry Wolves bounced back in dominant fashion to split their doubleheader against Lander on Saturday. Game one saw the Wolves battle at the plate but fall short, while game two showcased an explosive offensive performance, highlighted by a seven-run third inning and standout performances from Payton Little, Maddy Staples and Haidyn Campbell. Newberry's bats came alive with 14 hits, including two home runs, as they powered their way to a 13-8 victory to close out the day on a high note.
 

Game One: Newberry 0, Lander 15 (5 Innings)

 

Bethany Pigg was a bright spot for the Wolves, collecting two of the team's four hits in a solid performance at the plate.

 

Taylor Palfrey showed a solid outing, going 1-for-2 with a walk to spark potential scoring opportunities.

 

Despite a couple of miscues, Newberry turned in six defensive assists and made key outs to limit further damage.

 

The Wolves faced a powerful Lander lineup that found success early, but Newberry continued to compete throughout.

 

Newberry put runners on base in multiple innings, setting the stage for potential rallies in game two.

 

Game Two: Newberry 13, Lander 8

 

The Wolves broke the game open with a seven-run third inning, taking control early.

 

Little led the charge with a 4-for-4 day, one RBI, and a walk, reaching base in every plate appearance.

 

The Wolves worked nine walks and showed strong plate discipline.

 

Newberry crushed two home runs, including a grand slam from Staples in the fifth to cap off a five-run inning.

 

Newberry's starter Lindsey Foster pitched a complete game holding Lander to just eight hits while striking out five.

 

Campbell delivered a 3-for-4 performance, driving in a run and legging out a key triple to spark the Wolves' offense.

 

Leah Evans played a crucial role in Newberry's offensive explosion, collecting two hits and driving in four runs.

 

The Wolves will regroup in their next matchup on the road in a double header vs. North Greenville University on Wednesday, February 26th at 12pm and 2pm.
