Newberry Sweeps UNC Pembroke to Get Back in the Win Column

NEWBERRY, SC – The Newberry Wolves bounced back in dominant fashion, sweeping UNC Pembroke in a thrilling doubleheader with wins of 9-8 and 3-1. Samantha Clark and Tayor Palfrey led the way offensively, while Lindsey Foster delivered a strong pitching performance in Game 2. The Wolves' clutch hitting and resilient defense proved the difference as they secured both victories.

 

Game 1: Newberry 9, UNC Pembroke 8

 

Mady Brown went 2-4 with 3 RBIs, sparking Newberry's offense with a 2 RBI single in the bottom of the 2nd.

 

In the bottom of the third, the Wolves found themselves on the board again with a double from Maddy Staples scoring Ella Stone, while a single from Haidyn Campbell drove in Staples. 

 

A 2-RBI home run from shortstop Stone extended the Wolves to an 8-4 lead.

 

The Wolves' lineup was potent, accumulating 12 hits with multiple players contributing significantly.

 

Foster and Natalie Wescott combined in the relief innings to close out the game for the Wolves.

 

Game 2: Newberry 3, UNC Pembroke 1

 

Palfrey went 2-for-3 and scored two key runs, leading Newberry's offensive effort.

 

Bethany Pigg drove in a run for the Wolves in the 4th inning off of a single up the middle, scoring Staples.

 

Foster got herself in the win column, pitching 5.0 innings with one earned run and two strikeouts. Wescott closed the game for the Wolves pitching 2.0 full innings and earning the save.

 

With the sweep, Newberry improves to 3-9 on the season. They will face Georgia College in a 4pm and 6pm doubleheader on February 14th.
