This afternoon your Newberry College Wolves (8-1, 7-1) ride a six-game winning streak into a showdown with the Carson-Newman Eagles (6-2, 5-2).

The Wolves will win the South Atlantic Conference title outright with a victory and earn a bid to the 2025 NCAA Division 2 playoffs.

If Carson-Newman wins, then there is potential for a three-way tie for the league title based on next week's results.

The Wolves are open next week while Carson-Newman hosts Tusculum and Wingate (7-2, 5-2) hosts Mars Hill.  Wingate is at Tusculum this afternoon.

Your Wolves are ranked in both national polls this week, #18 in the D2football.com poll and #25 in the America Football Coach Association poll.

Newberry is also ranked #4 in the NCAA Division 2 Super Region 2 poll.

Both teams are coming off important wins, Newberry won at Anderson 24-21 on Burke Nettle's 22-yard field goal with 23 seconds remaining, while Carson-Newman defeated Catawba 24-16 at home.

Carson-Newman is riding a three-game winning streak and leads the overall series with Newberry 31-16 including the last two meetings, the last one coming in 2023 at Setzler Field 34-21.

The Wolves swept the SAC Player of the Week awards with Reed Charpia (offensive), Mikey Blandin (defensive) and Burke Nettles (special teams) taking home the honors.

Charpia completed 26 of 41 passes to nine different receivers for 310 yards and two touchdowns, Blandin led the Newberry defense with ten tackles including two and a half sacks and three quarterback hurries and  Nettles not only kicked the game winning field goal, but averaged 41.3 yards per punt on seven kicks placed two inside the 20-yard line, forced four fair catches, made all three of his extra point attempts and had three touchbacks on five kickoffs.

The Wolves' six-game winning streak is their longest since a seven-game winning streak in 2021 and their eight victories are one more than the last two seasons combined.
