Wolves Move to 5–0 With Road Win Over Erskine

DUE WEST, S.C. – Newberry women's basketball continued its undefeated start to the season, grinding out a 68–57 road victory over Erskine on Monday evening to improve to 5–0. The Wolves controlled the game through physical interior play, rebounding dominance, and a defensive effort that forced the Flying Fleet into long scoring droughts across multiple quarters.

Newberry set the tone early by attacking the paint, scoring 14 of its 16 first-quarter points near the rim and establishing a presence inside that Erskine struggled to match all night. The Wolves finished with 46 points in the paint, consistently breaking down the defense with post touches, dribble penetration, and second-chance opportunities.

Leigha Harris delivered one of her strongest performances of the season, pouring in 21 points on 9-of-12 shooting while grabbing eight rebounds and providing steady offense whenever Newberry needed a bucket. Rickell Brown powered the Wolves on the glass, finishing with a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds, including three offensive boards that helped Newberry extend possessions and control the tempo.

Defensively, the Wolves were relentless. Hannah Nimmo spearheaded the effort with an exceptional all-around performance—eight steals, nine points, four rebounds, and a key three-pointer that halted an Erskine run in the second quarter. Newberry forced 18 turnovers, converting them into 15 points while allowing Erskine to shoot just 29% from the field.

The Wolves also got meaningful production from their depth, with the bench contributing 21 points, highlighted by timely minutes from Daria Clet and Destiny Mattison, who combined for key baskets in the first half. Leading 30–28 at halftime, Newberry opened the third quarter with a composed defensive stretch, holding Erskine to just two field goals in the period. The Wolves then sealed the game with a 22-point fourth quarter, pushing the lead to double digits behind Harris's efficient scoring and Brown's dominance on the boards.

The win keeps Newberry perfect through the first five games of the season, showcasing a team identity built on toughness, balanced scoring, and defensive intensity. Newberry returns home to Eleazer Arena for its next matchup on Saturday, November 29 at 2 p.m., hosting Livingstone College.
