HICKORY, NC – The Newberry College volleyball team put together a gritty effort on the road but came up short against Lenoir-Rhyne, falling 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-16) in South Atlantic Conference play on Friday afternoon inside Shuford Memorial Coliseum.
The Wolves totaled 31 kills in the match, led by Samantha Shaffer and Carole Ann Hussey, who each tallied nine kills a piece. Shaffer hit an efficient .333 while adding a block, and Hussey contributed 10 total points. Anna Schneider chipped in six kills and six digs, while Gabby Warren added four block assists and two kills.
Annie Dill and Merryck Brackett shared setting duties, combining for 29 assists, while libero Hailey Clayworth anchored the defense with 17 digs. Kate Gross was also steady in the back row, with 10 digs and a pair of service aces.
With the result, Newberry moves to 7-4 overall and 2-3 in SAC play. The Wolves will look to rebound at home as conference play continues on the road on October 7th vs. Anderson at 7pm.
