NEWBERRY, SC – The Newberry College women's soccer team earned a 1–1 draw against Emory & Henry on Saturday afternoon at the Smith Road Complex, picking up a key South Atlantic Conference point in front of the home crowd. With the result, the Wolves move to 5-4-3 overall and 1-4-2 in SAC play.
Emory & Henry struck first in the final moments of the opening half, scoring in the last seconds of the 45th minute to take a 1-0 lead. The Wolves responded with energy out of the break, and the equalizer came in the 71st minute when Molly Quartly buried a shot inside the box for her third goal of the season, leveling the match at 1–1.
Newberry continued to push forward late, finishing with 13 total shots and six shots on goal. Mikaela Warburton led the attack with three shots, while Avalina Espinoza, Emily Castaneda, and Ella McDevitt also generated scoring chances for the Wolves. In goal, Madison Gutierrez had another strong outing, recording five saves to preserve the draw.
The match featured a physical battle throughout, with Emory & Henry receiving five yellow cards and one red card in the second half, but Newberry stayed composed down the stretch.
The Wolves continue SAC play next week as they face Tusculum at home on Wednesday at 5pm.
