This week's South Carolina Army National Guard Newberry College Players of the Week are freshman setter Merryck Brackett (Irmo) and junior running back Quez Spells (Summerville).

Brackett continues to highlight her all-round skills in leading the Wolves volleyball team to a 1-1 week including a crucial home sweep of Coker.  In two matches she accumulated 47 assists, 21 digs, three kills, two service aces and two blocks.  She registered a career high 31 assists, three kills, three aces and 6 ½ points in the home win over the Cobras.  After missing time earlier in the season due to an injury, Brackett has 128 assists, 68 digs and 10 service aces on the season.

Spells became the first player in Newberry College history to register a touchdown run, pass reception and kickoff return of at least 80 yards or more in a season when he took a short pass in Saturday's 38-21 win over Mars Hill and turned it into an 82-yard touchdown in the first quarter.  He previously had an 84-yard touchdown run in the win against Tusculum and a 96-yard kickoff return for a touchdown at UVA Wise.  Spells has 534 all-purpose yards this season.
