NEWBERRY, SC – The Newberry College women's soccer team showed resilience at home but came up just short in a 2-1 loss to Wingate University on Saturday afternoon at the Smith Road Complex.
Wingate opened the scoring in the 12th minute, but the Wolves responded quickly. In the 18th minute, Isabella Altorfer buried a loose ball inside the box for her first goal of the season, pulling Newberry and Wingate even at 1–1. The Bulldogs regained the lead in the 69th minute, and despite a strong push from the Wolves in the final 20 minutes, they couldn't find the equalizer. Newberry generated 11 total shots, including attempts from Molly Quartly, Natalie Ruiz, Avalina Espinoza, and True Arellano-Homan.
The Wolves move to 5-4-1 (1-4 SAC) and will face off against Lincoln Memorial on the road on Wednesday at 2:30pm for another SAC matchup.
