WILSON, NC – Head coach Jay Snyder earned his first career victory in dominant fashion as Newberry erupted for 16 runs on 20 hits to defeat Barton 16-3 in their 2025 season opener. The Wolves broke the game open with a five-run third inning, added three more in the fourth, and sealed the win with a seven-run ninth. Second baseman Bryson Nuckols led the pack, going 4-for-6 with a triple, four runs scored, and two RBIs, while Ethan LeBron and John Rollings controlled the Bulldogs from the mound.
Newberry struck first in the third inning, plating five runs, highlighted by a two RBI single from first baseman Cooper Gentry.
LeBron (1-0) held Barton in check over 5.2 innings, allowing three runs on seven hits with four strikeouts.
Center fielder Kade Faircloth recorded two hits, three runs, two RBIs, and a double, contributing to big rallies in the third and ninth innings.
DH John Allen Forrester delivered two hits, a walk, three RBIs, and two runs, and shortstop Chandler Mims also reached base consistently, going 2-for-4 with three runs scored.
Rollings came in for 3.1 scoreless innings, giving up just one hit while striking out two to secure the win and tallying his first save of the season.
Newberry's defense turned two double plays and held Barton to just three runs on eight hits.
After a quiet few middle innings, Newberry tacked on an insurance run in the eighth before exploding for seven more in the ninth to put the game away.
The Wolves start the 2025 season at 1-0, giving Coach Snyder his first win in commanding fashion. Tomorrow Newberry is set to go at it again vs. the Bulldogs at 11am for their second of the 3-game series.
