SUMTER SC, – Newberry College Men's and Women's tennis teams' sweep their USC Sumter trip with each squad picking up their first win of the season.
Men's Tennis Match: Win 8-1
Doubles play was very strong for our men's squad today:
In game one, David Negzaoui and Joshua Fritz got off to a great season start, winning 8-3. In game two, James Vincent and Senthen Reddy didn't slow down, winning their match 8-3. Game three finished in similar fashion with Lucas Mruk and Gabriel Fernandez-Iglesias completing the double sweep with another 8-3 victory over the Fire Ants.
The Wolves stayed hot in singles play, winning five of six matches:
Vincent (6-1, 7-5), Fritz (6-3, 6-4), Reddy (6-4, 7-5), Mruk (6-0, 7-4), and Fernandez-Iglesias (6-3, 6-2) all found themselves in the win column for the second time today, all in only two sets.
Women's Tennis Match: Win 9-0
Doubles play was dominant for our Wolves:
With wins coming from all around, Emma Arnal and Margarita Roshka started us off with an 8-1 victory. Finishing with the same score in game two, Lina Sarhan and Renee Dorval secured an 8-1 win. Last, but not least, Aina Miralles and Alexa Gamborino-Suarez finished doubles play for our Wolves with an 8-3 victory.
The Wolves closed the day with an amazing performance in singles play, not losing a single match. Arnal (6-2, 6-1), Roshka (6-0, 6-1), Sarhan (6-0, 6-1), Gamborino-Suarez (6-0, 6-1), Miralles (6-0, 6-0), and Dorval (6-0, 6-0) all had dominant performances in their respective matches.
The Wolves will compete for two days in the Coker Invitational Tournament on Sept. 21 & Sept. 22
