Wolves Sweep Catawba College in Three Sets, Winning the SAC Matchup and Firing Up Eleazar Arena.

NEWBERRY, SC – Wolves sweep Catawba College in three sets, winning the SAC matchup, and firing up Eleazar Arena. .

 

OVERVIEW: CATAWBA VS NEWBERRY

SCORE: Newberry Wolves 3, Catawba Indians 0 (25-18, 25-12, 25-21)

RECORDS: Newberry (4-5), Catawba (1-8)

LOCATION: Eleazar Arena – Newberry, SC

 

RECAP: The Wolves finish off Catawba in three sets after a huge hitting performance tallying 31 kills. With some help from a massive crowd in Eleazar Arena, the Wolves put the SAC matchup in the bag. 

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • The Wolves kicked off set one with a kill from Samantha Shaffer, from Katy Morrison. Followed up by an ace from Giovanna Ravanhani, 3-2 Wolves.

  • Newberry took a 10-7 lead after a dump kill from setter Annie Dill.

  • Catawba started to fall behind after another kill from Shaffer extending the Wolves lead to 18-12.

  • Three back-to-back kills from Gabby Warren, Emma Christensen, and Anna Schneider, setting up a set point, 24-16

  • Another kill from Christensen, assisted by Ravanhani, closed this set out 25-18.

  • Newberry came out hot in set two taking a 10-4 lead after a service error, assisted by our Wolves in the stands.

  • A service ace from Morrison and two errors from the Indians gave the Wolves a 18-8 lead.

  • Another kill from Shaffer and another ace from Ravanhani put the Wolves in victory formation for set two, 21-9.

  • A kill from Kate Brown finished set two with a score of 25-12.

  • The Indians flipped things around in the start of the third set, taking an 8-4 lead after back-to-back errors.

  • A service ace from Brown tied this game up at 9-9.

  • Staying tied up until 15-15, an error and an ace from Gabby Warren put the Wolves back ahead, 17-15.

  • The Indians didn't back down, tying the third set score, 18-18.

  • Newberry went on a 7-3 run, featuring kills from Ally Owens, Dill, and Shaffer, to close out the set 25-21, ending the match.
