Newberry Volleyball Falls 3-1 in Home Opener vs. Anderson University

NEWBERRY, SC – Newberry Volleyball falls 3-1 in home opener vs. Anderson University.

 

OVERVIEW: ANDERSON VS NEWBERRY

SCORE: Newberry Wolves 1, Anderson Trojans 3 (25-18, 18-25, 9-25, 14-25)

RECORDS: Newberry (2-2), Anderson (2-2)

LOCATION: Newberry College - Newberry, SC

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • In set one, things started off tight. The Wolves and Trojans were going back and forth tying the score at twelve a piece.

  • The Wolves took off from there scoring six straight making this score 18-12. 

  • The Wolves took a 22-15 lead after a kill from Madison Watson, assisted by Giovanna Ravanhani. 

  • The Wolves won set one 25-18.

  • Momentum flipped in set two with Anderson taking a 12-6 after a bad set.

  • The Wolves fought back, cutting the Trojan's lead to only four after a kill from Emma Christensen. 14-10)

  • Newberry kept close, being down 15-19, but it wasn't enough to get the job done. Anderson won set two 25-18 after a kill from Kaitlyn Barret, assisted by Mia Bennett. 

  • A close start to the set put the score at 5-5 after a kill from Samantha Shaffer, assisted by Giovanna Ravanhani.

  • The Trojans went on a 7-1 run, making the score 12-6 after a bad set.

  • Anderson continued, scoring eight straight, 20-8

  • A kill from Carole Ann Hussey broke the Trojan run, but the Wolves couldn't hold on.

  • Trojans won set three, 25-9.

  • Things were close once again to start set four. Trojans took 5-4 lead after an attack error.

  • The Trojans went on an 8-1 run, making the score 13-5.

  • Newberry rallied, but ultimately couldn't hold off the Trojans. Final set score: 25-14.
