The Newberry College Athletic Club is changing its name ahead of the coming athletic season. Effective July 1, the organization will sport the college's colors as the Scarlet & Gray Athletic Club.

The athletic club has served as the college's athletic auxiliary, or booster club, providing financial and promotional support to student-athletes since 1952. This support benefits scholarships for over 800 student-athletes across 24 NCAA Division II sports and two co-ed spirit squads.

"This change will strengthen the bonds between the athletic club, our college, our members and fans, and our student-athletes," said Sharon Bryant '11, director of the athletic club. "The athletic club keeps our student-athletes on the road to championships, and it takes scarlet and gray blood, sweat and tears to get there. This name change will reflect that."
