NEWBERRY – The Newberry College baseball team (19-19, 13-8 SAC) will be facing the no. 13 ranked Trojans of the University of Mount Olive (28-8, 17-3 CC) Wednesday afternoon in a neutral site non-conference battle being held at Carolina Bank Stadium in Florence, S.C.
The Wolves and Trojans will be playing two nine inning games, one being tomorrow and the other scheduled for next Tuesday at the home of the Florence Flamingos. Tomorrow's game will have live stats via umotrojans.com.
Scouting the Wolves
- The Wolves enter the mid-week series winning the last 12 of 15 games. Newberry holds a 19-19 overall record and a 13-8 record in the South Atlantic Conference.
- The Wolves offense is led by South Atlantic Conference player of the week Donovan Ford. Ford went 11-14 last week with a 1.000 slugging percentage, four RBIs, six runs, and three doubles. In the three-game series against L-R, Ford went 9-11 including a 7-7 double header on Saturday.
- The Wolves got a great start from junior lefty Ethan LeBron. LeBron threw five innings in his start in game two against L-R, earning his fourth win of the season.
Scouting the Trojans
- The Trojans enter this mid-week contest ranked 13th in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA). Mount Olive holds a 28-8 overall record and leads the Conference Carolinas with a 17-3 record. The Trojans are on a 14-game winning streak.
- Senior outfielder Vito Patierno is the leader of the Trojan offense. The Raleigh native went 7-13 with two doubles, a home run and two RBIs as the Trojans Swept Southern Wesleyan last weekend. Patierno leads the Trojans with a .402 batting average, 13 doubles, and four home runs.
- The Trojans have thrown senior right hander Justin Koehler. Koehler went six innings striking out seven batters in a 12-4 win over Wingate last Tuesday afternoon in Mount Olive.
