NEWBERRY, S.C. - Men's tennis gave it their all in this evenings loss to UVA Wise, 3-4.
Doubles was an tough start to the day. Both court one of
Joshua Fritz and
David Negzaoui and court three
Thilo Lorenz and
Lucas Mruk had tight back and fourth matches where they were ultimately overcome 4-6. On the other hand, the duo of
James Vincent and
Noel Bartz had themselves a match. They cleared their competition quick with a 6-0 win.
Doubles saw three matches go to three sets. Court one saw the first set of three with Vincent. After dominating the first set 6-1, Vincent kept it tight in second set loss, 4-6 and third set loss, 5-7.
The second third set came from Bartz who was able to pull a strong comeback. After losing the first set 5-7, Bartz pulled the reverse on the Cavalier and took the second, sending the match to three. The third set was his cleanest, taking it 6-3 and giving the Wolves a point.
Lorenz played an impressive first set, taking it 6-1. In it until the very end, Lorenz dropped the second 4-6, sending the match to three where he was unable to bring it back to his side.
Court four saw Fritz show consistency with his wins. In the first set Fritz put in the work, getting it done 6-3. Set two was cleaner, seeing him earn a point for the Wolves in 6-2.
Negzaoui played the best set for the Wolves in singles. After a close encounter on set one, Negzaoui took it 6-4. Making up for the tight set, Negzaoui flew by the Cavalier, taking the second set 6-0.
The Wolves will play their final home match on Wednesday, April 10th at 2 P.M. against Coker.
