Wolves Move On To The Semi-Final Round Of The SAC Playoffs

NEWBERRY, S.C. - Women's lacrosse handles the Cavaliers with ease. Serena Elias set a team high five goals on the day to send the Wolves to the semi final round with a 19-5 win. Five Wolves finished the day with a hat trick.

Heather Johnston took the liberty of starting the offensive campaign off with two back to back goals to give the Wolves a nice lead. The four remaining goals to be scored in the first quarter were from Emma Jobs, Ella Todd, Serena Elias and Cassell Richardson. Trysten Burns and Lana Howell found one assist for themselves. Defensively, the Wolves caused more turnovers in the first quarter than the Cavaliers scored goals. Elias, Todd, Morgan Parsons and Madalyn Messersmith all caused one turnover.

The second quarter was near perfect for the Wolves as they only allowed one goal scored. That one loan goal came from a gimmie free position shot with one second remaining in the half. Goal keeper Mackenzie Dorr excelled this quarter, stuffing three of four shots. Messersmith caused another turnover this quarter along with Adriana Hart. Marissa Plumer had herself a period by causing two turnovers and scooping two ground balls. Offensively the Wolves scored four unanswered goals with the first coming in the first 30 seconds of the match from Elias off an assist from Richardson. Jobs went on to score the next goal assisted by Howell. Richardson topped off the second period scoring run with two back to back goals, one off a free position attempt, the other from Jobs.

The third period went the same for the Wolves, conceding only one goal. For the remaining 14 minutes left in the 15 minute period, the Wolves kept the Cavaliers scoreless, with the defense only allowing four shots. Jobs put the Wolves back up by six. Elias then continued her dominance by score back to back goals, both unassisted. Howell took the reigns from her in the final three minutes of the period, scoring back to back goals as well, sending the Wolves to the fourth quarter up by ten.

Getting through the period unscathed, the Wolves extended their lead by four more goals while holding the Cavaliers to the only scoreless period this match. Elias wrapped up her monstrous five point game with the first goal of the period within the first minute. Ella Todd completed her hat trick with two goals in the period with the final goal coming off an assist from Mackenzie Watson. In between Todd's goals, Howell also completed her hat trick thanks to an assist from none other than Todd. The Wolves smothering defense only allowed two shots off in the period, with none of them ever reaching the cage.

The Wolves will continue the playoff campaign against Wingate on Wednesday, April 24th with a time to be determined.
