SUMTER, S.C. - Seventh seeded women's tennis will face off against second seeded Lenoir-Rhyne at 2 P.M. in the quarterfinal round of the SAC tournament.
This will be the second meeting this season for the Wolves and Bears. Previously, Lenoir-Rhyne narrowly defeated Newberry 3-4. In their last match, the Wolves were coming off spring break fatigue. Regardless, both squads played well under the conditions. The matches deciding factor was a tie breaker loss from
Sofia Cardenas.Â
Since their last meeting, Newberry went 4-3 to close out the season while Lenoir-Rhyne finished out 4-2. In that span, the Bears defeated Catawba and Tusculum, both teams that defeated the Wolves, while also losing to Wingate. In their head to head matches against Wingate, Newberry out played the Bears. The same can be said about their matches against Lincoln Memorial. Newberry swept the Rail Splitters 7-0 while Lenoir-Rhyne won 5-2.
The winner of this match will take on the winner of the Catawba and Limestone match. Earlier this season, the Wolves defeated Limestone 4-3 while falling to Catawba 3-4.
