HICKORY, N.C. – The tenth ranked Newberry College men's lacrosse team (8-3, 3-3 SAC) fell 15-10 in a top ten ranked battle that would have six ties and three lead changes with the No. 2 ranked Bears of Lenior-Rhyne (10-1, 5-1 SAC) Saturday afternoon.
Senior attacker
Scott Reed would score five points in the afternoon on four goals and a assist.
Reed's lone assist would give the Wolves a 1-0 lead on a goal scored by
Zach Thompson. The Wolves would finish the first quarter strong with three unanswered goals from
Jack Travassos,
Baker Westmoreland, and Reed to take a 5-2 lead at the end of one quarter.
The Bears would respond in the second quarter scoring four unanswered to take a 6-5 lead, but with 1:43 left in the quarter, Reed would tie the game up at six going into the break.
The Wolves would re-gain the lead early in the third quarter with Reed's third goal of the day to get a 7-6 lead. The Bears would respond with three straight goals to take a 9-7 lead. To finish the third, the Wolves would get goals from
Jimmy Osorio to tie it up at nine going into the Final quarter.
The Bears would outscore the Wolves in the final quarter 6-1 to take a 15-10 win.
