Wolves Look to Continue their Hot Streak Against the Lions

NEWBERRY - The Newberry College baseball team (15-16, 9-6 SAC) will look to add to their eight-game winning streak as they head to Mars Hill to take on the Lions of Mars Hill University (11-20, 3-12 SAC) in a three-game series starting on Friday.
 
The three-game series will have one game played on Friday at 2:00 p.m., followed by a double header on Saturday starting at 12:00 p.m.

Scouting The Wolves
  • The Wolves enter this weekend's series on an eight-game winning streak with a 15-16 overall record and a 9-6 South Atlantic Conference mark. The Wolves are in fifth place and are two games behind the top spot in the SAC standings. The Wolves swept the Highland Cavaliers in a three-game series on Sunday and Monday at the Smith Rd. Complex.
  • Freshman outfielder Luke Compton had a great week at the dish for the Wolves last week. In four games played, Compton went 8-16, scoring five runs, driving in seven runs while hitting a double and a triple.
  • Junior right-hander Hunter French earned his way into the Friday starting role. French has given up no earned runs in two of his last three outings. French has a 3-2 record with 17 strikeouts and a complete game so far this season.
Scouting the Lions
  • The Lions are off to an 11-20 start along with a 3-12 SAC mark. The Lions will be entering the weekend after a non-conference win against the Mt. Lions of Young Harris Wednesday afternoon by a 6-5 final score.
  • The Lions have got solid production from Freshman infielder Carter Potts. Potts currently holds a .297 batting average with 18 RBIs and nine extra base hits. Potts went 1-5 in the win against Young Harris Wednesday afternoon.
  • The Wolves will see freshman right-hander Brennan Williams and Senior southpaw in Brian Smart. Williams has started in eight games for the Lions and leads the team with 28 strikeouts on the season. Smart is 1-1 in 10 appearances including three starts with an ERA of 2.37.
Up Next
After the weekend series with Mars Hill, the Wolves will come back to the Smith Rd. Complex next Tuesday for a Non-Conference battle with nationally ranked North Greenville. Tuesday will be business night at the ballpark.
