LENOIR CITY, Tenn. – At the conclusion of three rounds of play at the Tennessee River Rumble, the Newberry College men's golf team finished in a tie for 17th at 48-over.
Host Lincoln Memorial won the tournament at even-par 864. North Georgia was one shot back in second, followed by Union University (Tenn.) at 9-over, Wingate (+13) and USC Aiken (+14).
Josh Greig (+6) led Newberry on the individual leaderboard in a tie for 35th place. Greig registered a team-high eight birdies for the week, including four in his impressive 3-under 69 second round.
Tom Hull (+13) improved in each successive round, shooting 78-76-75 on the par-72 course. Hull's final and best round included a trio of birdies.
Benny Fischer was likewise 13-over for his three rounds, shooting 81-72-76. Fischer had the Wolves' lone eagle of the week – only five players had one throughout the field of 100 – which he paired with three birdies.
Herman du Plessis completed Newberry's scoring at 18-over after three rounds. He shot 74-80-80 and had at least one birdie in every round.
Javier Borrego Martin (+34) had three birdies throughout the tournament.
The Wolves' next event is the South Atlantic Conference Men's Golf Championship April 21-23 at Orangeburg Country Club.
