Box Score NEWBERRY, S.C. - Women's lacrosse took it all from the Pioneers in a 17-5 blowout.
It was all gas and no breaks right from the beginning for the Wolves, shutting out the Pioneers in the first period and scoring four. 40 seconds into the game,
Jadie Burns took on the whole team, splitting three defenders to drive in the first goal.
Serena Elias found the second goal for the wolves, splitting her defender at the goal line extended (GLE), hitting a door stop shovel shot.
Ella Todd broke the calm nine minutes of the game, getting her first of the game off of a free position shot. Todd sealed off the dominant period, scoring another goal with 40 second remaining to put the Wolves up 4-0.
The second period saw another four goals for the Wolves. After a draw control win for Elias, the ball made it around the offense once before Todd split her defender and found a wide open
Emma Jobs running down center. The quick pass earned Jobs her first goal of the game and Todd her first assist. Being man-up,
Trysten Burns got a quick tap in goal for the Wolves thanks to another Todd assist. With two minutes left in the half, Thanks to a smothering caused turnover at the 50 by Todd, T Burns picked up the ground ball and bolted to the net. Being one-on-one with the goalie, T Burns found her second goal of the day. The final goal of the half came from Elias on a free position shot with 17 seconds left on the clock. Going into the half the Wolves lead 8-1.
The third period was by far the Wolves best, scoring six while only letting in one. While being man-down,
Mackenzie Watson found the net off an assist from J Burns to start off the third. J Burns went on to score the next goal for the Wolves, being wide open from a
Marissa Plumer feed and assist. Continuing their scoring run, Todd earned her hat trick with an unassisted shot in the ninth minute. A minute and change later, Plumer got her first goal of the game, one shy of hitting a career 200 goals.
Lana Howell broke the five minute silence in the game, splitting her first defender and beat the slide to dump in a door stop goal. Elias scored the final goal of the third during transition that started off with goalie Kaitlyn Lamanna stopping a free position shot. Elias went on to run from the 50 and beat her defender to get an easy dump in goal. Entering the fourth the Wolves lead 14-2.Â
The foot was taken off the gas in the fourth with only three goals being scored by the Wolves. Claiming her fourth and final goal of regulation, Todd beat her first defender and faked out her second to find the goal. The next goal came from T Burns who finished this game with a hat trick as well. Plumer claimed the final goal of the match thanks to an assist from
Cassell Richardson who registered her first point of the season. With that goal, Pulmer hit a momentous milestone in her career; scoring 200 career goals
The Wolves will be back in action on Wednesday, March 6th at 4 P.M. where they'll take on Wingate at home.
