MONROE, N.C. – After three rounds of play at the Jerry Surratt Memorial Intercollegiate at Stonebridge Golf Club, the Newberry College women's golf team took home a 12th place finish.
Host Wingate won the tournament with a combined team score of 880 (+16). Anderson was one shot back in second, with Findlay a shot behind them in third. The University of North Georgia (+22) was fourth and in fifth was Carson-Newman (+28).
Noelia Adkins finished in a tie for 39th to lead the Wolves at 15-over with a trio of 77s on the par-72 course. Adkins had a steady performance with 38 pars, tied for fourth most in the field, and a pair of birdies over the two-day event.
Julie Hoscalkova improved from a first-round 81 to a pair of 79s in the second and third rounds to finish at +23 with two birdies. Hoscalkova also led the team in par-4 scoring.
Nicole Strydom (+24) showed improvement in each successive round, shooting 84-79-77 with a couple of birdies over the course of the two days.
Blanca Noriega was 25-over and completed the scoring for Newberry. Noriega fired off a team-best 76 in the first round followed by an 82 in the second and 83 in the final round. She led the team with four birdies throughout her three rounds.
Sofia Liden was a shot behind Noriega after scoring 83-79-80 and carding two birdies in the tournament.
The Wolves will look to rebound in two weeks at the Lady Bearcat Invitational at Greenwood Country Club on Monday and Tuesday, March 25 and 26.
