Offense Explodes as Wolves Sweep the Highland Cavaliers

NEWBERRY, S.C.- The Wolves swept the Cavaliers of UVA Wise this afternoon in a South Atlantic Conference double header with the first game score 12-4 and second game 8-0, both games in mercy rule fashion.

Game 1
Freshman pitcher, Eva Crader earned her first collegiate win for game one with four runs and five hits in four innings of work with nine strikeouts.
The Wolves started off the first inning, putting four runs on the board. Sierra Brogdon crossed the plate on a Cavalier wild pitch. Hailey Hill singled to right center and Cassidy Phelps scored. Bethany Pigg reached on a Cavalier error from their second baseman for Vanessa Wilson to score. Leah Evans reached on a fielder's choice and Kristin Griffin to put the Wolves up 4-0 after the bottom of the first.
Brogdon would add one more run on the board for the Wolves in the bottom of the second with a home run to left field to put the Wolves up 5-0.
UVA Wise scored their first run in the top of the third with a sacrifice fly to center field.
Griffin singled to left field for Hill to score in the bottom of the fourth. Tori Rose then singled up the middle and advanced on the throw for two more runs to score to extend the Wolves lead 8-1.
The Cavaliers would add three more runs in the top of the fifth, 8-4.
In the bottom of the fifth, Hill hit a three-run home run to center field and Griffin with an RBI single to left field for the Wolves to take game one 12-4.

  • Eva Crader had nine strikeouts in four innings.
Game 2
Lex Glemaker earned the win for game two of the afternoon with one hit and one walk in four innings of work.
Glemaker and Jayla Jackson would hold the Cavaliers to six scoreless innings.
To start the Wolves off, Vanessa Wilson tripled to right field and Sierra Brogdon crossed the plate. Kristin Griffin hit a home run and Vanessa Wilson scored to put the Wolves up 3-0.
In the bottom of the second, Sierra Brogdon reached on a throwing error and advanced to third for Melanie Carr to score.
Bethany Pigg drove Vanessa Wilson home with a double to left center in the third to extend the Wolves lead 5-0.
Mady Staples scored in the fifth inning to make the score 6-0.
In the bottom of the sixth, Hailey Hill hit her second home run of the day to right field. Bethany Pigg drove Kristin Griffin home with a single up the middle for the Wolves to take game two 8-0.

The Wolves are at home to host the Jaguars of Augusta for a non-conference double header next Wednesday set to begin at 1:00.
