The Wolves Swept the Crusaders in a Midweek Contest

NEWBERRY, S.C.- The Wolves (4-2, 0-0 SAC) swept the Crusaders (3-3, 0-0 CC) this afternoon in their non-conference double header 4-1 in the first game and 10-4 in the second at the Smith Rd. Complex.
Game 1
The Wolves held the Crusaders to five hits and one run in the first game of the afternoon. Jayla Jackson received the win, making this her second win of the season and freshman pitcher Eva Crader received her first college career save for the first game.
The Wolves had a slow start until the third inning, a single to center field from Mady Brown for Leah Evans to score their first run of the game. The Wolves scored again in the third inning with a single up the middle from Sierra Brogdon and Mady Brown scored to make the score 2-0.
In the sixth inning, Tori Rose hit a fly ball to right field where Maddy Staples scored on a Crusaders error and Yahaira Williams also scored.
Game 1 Leaders
  • Sierra Brogdon had two hits with three at bats and one RBI.
  • Mady Brown had two hits with four at bats along with one run and one RBI.
  • Tori Rose led with two RBIs.
  • Eva Crader pitched three innings with no runs, no hits, and three strikeouts.
Game 2
The Wolves defeated the Crusaders 10-4 in the second game for the double header sweep. Lex Glemaker received the win for the second game of the afternoon.
The Crusaders scored three runs in the top of the first and the Wolves came out firing to take the lead 4-3 after the first inning.
Brogdon singled up the middle for Mady Brown to score the first run. Melanie Carr scored with the help of a double to right field from Cassidy Phelps. With the help of two executed groundballs from Vanessa Wilson and Hailey Hill, Brogdon and Phelps came across to score.
The Wolves scored three more runs in the second inning. The Crusaders pitcher threw a pass ball and Tomie Christofaro scored. Brogdon hit a sacrifice fly ball to center field and Mady Brown scored. Phelps hit a single through the left side and Carr scored.
The Wolves finished with one run in the fifth and two in the sixth to end the game 10-4.
In the fifth inning, Hailey Hill grounded out to the shortstop and Erin Wilson scored. Vanessa Wilson hit a triple down the right field line for Phelps and Yahaira Williams to score in the sixth inning.
Game 2 Leaders
  • Cassidy Phelps went four for four at the plate with a double and three singles and two RBIs.
  • Sierra went two for three at the plate with two singles and a sacrifice fly and two RBIs.
  • Vanessa Wilson went two for four at the plate with a double and a triple, leading the team with three RBIs.
  • Maddy Staples went one for one at the plate with a single.
Up Next
The Wolves head to Lander University this Saturday to compete in the Brianna Surrento Classic. The Wolves' first game is against Claflin at 10:00 a.m. and again against Erskine at noon.
