Wolves Start Conference Play with Three-Game Series with Bulldogs.

NEWBERRY – The Newberry College baseball team (2-5, 0-0 SAC) will look to start the South Atlantic Conference play on the right foot with a three-game series with the Bulldogs of Wingate University (3-4, 0-0 SAC) this Friday and Saturday at the Smith Rd. Complex.
 
The Wolves are fresh off a non-conference 9-7 victory over the Indians of Catawba Wednesday afternoon.
Scouting the Wolves.
  • The Wolves (2-5) look to gain momentum after defeating the Indians of Catawba Wednesday evening 9-7.
  • Senior right-fielder Jacob LeBron leads the Wolves with a .304 batting average, six RBIs, and seven walks. LeBron had a rbi single in the fifth inning in the 9-7 win on Saturday night. LeBron also stole his third base of the season.
  • The Wolves would get a solid night on the mound Wednesday evening. Sophomore righty Blake Morrison would get his second save of the season for the Wolves. Senior left-handed pitcher Wyatt Carey would get the win with 2 strikeouts in one inning pitched for the Wolves in the 9-7 win.
Scouting the Bulldogs.
  • The Bulldogs come into this weekend conference series with a 3-4 record. Wingate defeated the Flying Fleet of Erskine 4-2 Tuesday afternoon at Ron Christopher Stadium in Wingate.
  • The Bulldogs have been getting production from graduate infielder Michael Dansky. Dansky leads the Bulldogs hitting .444, with a double and three home runs on the short season. In the 4-2 win over Erskine, graduate infielder Andrew McKay had a double and an RBI in the win.
  • On the mound for the Bulldogs junior transfer Kelan Hoover is off to a strong start in the 2024 season. Hoover has a 0.82 era, struck out five batters in 11 innings pitched in his two starts. The Bulldogs pitching shined in their win over Erskine. Freshman right-hander Carson Morton went 2 1/3 to start the game, striking out three without allowing a run to earn the win.

After the first SAC series with the Bulldogs, the Wolves will travel to Tigerville, S.C. next Tuesday to take on the number two ranked Crusaders of North Greenville University at 3:30 p.m.
