Preview: Wolves Hit the Road for Matchup vs. Wingate

NEWBERRY – With a week off to prepare, the Newberry College men's basketball team will head to Wingate tomorrow for a road matchup with the Bulldogs. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

Scouting the Wolves:
•    Newberry (5-14, 4-10 SAC) is coming off a narrow 69-68 loss at the buzzer to Catawba last Wednesday.
•    Drake Downs had a career night for the Wolves in that game, scoring 22 points and grabbing 14 rebounds – both career bests.
•    Joining Downs in double figures was Caleb Byrd and his 13 points. Byrd made 6 of 11 shots and added a free throw to go along with five rebounds.
•    The Wolves were after it on the defensive end and got a season-high 10 steals against the Indians.

Scouting the Bulldogs:
•    Wingate (18-5, 13-2 SAC) are winners of four straight games including an 83-76 road victory over Tusculum on Saturday.
•    Josh Massey had the hot hand for the Bulldogs in that game, making 10 of 14 shots and both attempts from 3-point range to finish with 28 points.
•    Kendall Taylor added 21 points thanks to 6-of-11 shooting and eight free throws.
•    Donell Nixon II – whose 18 points per game is tied for seventh most in the conference – matched that number against the Pioneers. He was perfect from the line (10 for 10) and shot 3 for 6 for the game.
