Malakhi Stremlow scored a season-high18 points, grabbed seven rebounds and had two steals to lead the Wolves to a 68-54 win over Catawba at Eleazer Arena.
Devario Sheppard added 15 points, six rebounds, two blocked shots and a steal,
Drew Robinson chipped in with 13 points, five assists and three steals and
Booker Cusaac had nine points, eight rebounds, a block and a steal.
Newberry outscored Catawba 42-30 in the second half thanks to shooting 60.9 percent from the floor while limiting the Indians to 25.7 percent shooting over the final 20 minutes.
Catawba was averaging just under 85 points per game coming into the contest, but the Wolves held them to their lowest point total since a 65-54 loss to Wingate on January 21, 2015.
Robinson's driving layup with 8:18 left in the game built the Wolves lead to 50-32, their biggest lead of the contest.
Catawba cut the lead to 54-42, but Sheppard scored on a driving layup and
James Lovorn knocked down a 3-point basket to build the lead back to 59-42 with 4:33 remaining.
Catawba got no closer than 12 points the rest of the game.
The Wolves built on their narrow 26-24 halftime advantage by hitting four of their first seven shots including two of four three-pointers to grab a 37-29 lead six minutes into the second half.
Stremlow scored nine of the Wolves 11 points to key the 11-5 run to start the second half.
Despite shooting just 25% from the floor in the first half, the Wolves led 26-24 thanks to effective work at the charity stripe.
Newberry made just seven of 28 shots from the floor including 1 of 11 3-point attempts in the first 20 minutes but converted on 11 of 13 shots from the free throw line.
The Wolves defense forced nine first half turnovers.
Neither team led by more than four points in the first half with 12 lead changes.
Sheppard led the Wolves in the first half with 12 points, four rebounds and a steal while making 3-of-6 shots from the floor and 6-of-7 free throws.
The win broke a four-game losing streak to Catawba and improved the Wolves record to 5-6 overall and 2-5 in the South Atlantic Conference.
The Wolves held Catawba to its fewest points in the series since a 73-55 Newberry win on January 24, 2004.
