Newberry, SC-- Despite a valiant effort, the Newberry Wolves fell short against the Lincoln Memorial Railsplitters, 74-70, in a closely contested game.
The game started with both teams trading baskets, with neither side able to establish a dominant lead early on. Newberry's offense, led by
Devario Sheppard who scored 18 points and 7 rebounds. The Wolves found success early in the paint scoring 14 points in the paint during the first half. Lincoln Memorial would go on a late run 38-35 lead into the locker-room. However, Sheppard hit a clutch mid-range jumper to keep the deficit within striking distance.
James Lovorn put up 15 points and snagged 3 rebounds, while
Drew Robinson added 13 points to the scoreboard.
Malakhi Stremlow also made a solid contribution with 10 points and 6 boards.
Coming out of the locker room, Newberry continued to battle, never letting the game slip away. The Wolves showed strong flashes of offensive cohesion, setting solid screens and executing plays, with
Janyle Pittman contributing 8 points and going 2-of-3 from beyond the arc.
Newberry shot an impressive 88% from the charity stripe, while hitting 41% from the field and 38% from beyond the arc. They also capitalized with 8 points off turnovers and 15 second-chance points. The Wolves record now is (4-6 Overall), (1-5 SAC)
The Wolves will be back in action on December 18th against Catawba for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.
