Wolves Put Down Emory & Henry 3-1 in Their Final Match of the Season

NEWBERRY, SC – Wolves put down Emory & Henry 3-1 in their final match of the season.

 

OVERVIEW: EMORY & HENRY UNIVERSITY VS NEWBERRY COLLEGE

SCORE: Newberry Wolves 3, Emory & Henry Wasps 1 (25-22, 26-24, 19-25, 26-24)

RECORDS: Newberry (9-14, 6-8 SAC), Emory & Henry (5-23, 2-16 SAC)

LOCATION: Eleazer Arena – Newberry, SC

 

HIGHLIGHTS:

    Set 1:

  • The Wolves started on fire, leading the Wasps 7-1 to start the match featuring kills from Samantha Shaffer, Anna Hapner, Madison Watson, all assisted by Annie Dill.

  • Keeping their momentum the Wolves held their lead late into the set, 16-9.

  • Emory & Henry closing the Wolves lead to only one point, 23-22. 

  • Hapner got the Wolves going again and an attack error closed out the set one victory.

    Set 2:

  • Set two started out tight with each team tied up at 6-6.

  • Breaking free of the tie, the Wasps went on a 7-1 run, doubling their score and leading the Wolves 14-7.

  • The Wolves didn't let that fly and went on their own 8-0 run with four kills from Shaffer, taking a 15-14 lead.

  • Looking to end the set, the Wasps led 24-21.

  • Newberry wasn't going to go down easy, and with some nice dishes from Giovanna Ravanhani, and kills from Anna Schneider, D'Metria Jordan, and Emma Christensen, the Wolves won the set 26-24.

    Set 3:

  • The Wasps found themselves out to an early, 9-6 lead until a 7-0 run from the Wolves turned the tide and gave them a 13-9 lead.

  • Being able to fight back, the Wasps tied the set up at 19-19.

  • Not letting off the gas, the Wasps ended the set, 25-19, not allowing another point from the Wolves.

    Set 4:

  • With the set tied up at 6-6, the Wasps went on a 5-0 run to take a new 11-6 lead.

  • The Wolves clawed away but were still down to a hot Emory & Henry offense, 19-16 Wasps.

  • With the Wasps ready to close it out at a 24-21 score, the Wolves had a different ending in mind. Two kills from Hapner and five unanswered points shifted the tie and gave the Wolves a 26-24 victory, ending their final set of the season with a great comeback.
