Newberry, SC- The Newberry Field Hockey team faced Lander University in a tightly contested match that ended their five-game winning streak with a narrow 0-1 loss.
The first period was a back-and-forth battle, with both teams vying for control. Newberry's goalkeeper,
Kyla Cooke, made her first save at 13:34, keeping the game scoreless. In the second period, fouls increased on both sides, but Lander managed to score the only goal of the game late in the first half from a short corner.
Despite the setback, the Wolves fought hard throughout the match, forcing Lander into several fouls and receiving two green cards, which left them playing two players down in the third quarter. Newberry outshot Lander, totaling nine shots in the first two periods alone.
In the final period, the Wolves fought hard until the clock ran out, creating back-to-back shot opportunities. However, Bearcat's defense was able to establish control, resulting in a hard-fought 0-1 loss for Newberry
Looking ahead, Newberry will host two more games: they will play against Lincoln Memorial on October 31 at 6 PM and take on Converse on November 2 at 11 AM.
